The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) has issued a new report entitledThe Power of Drugs to Treat Erectile Dysfunction.
The report, released by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and the Association of American Pharmacists of Health System Pharmacists (AAPHP), describes the latest evidence on the efficacy and safety of drugs that are commonly prescribed to treat erectile dysfunction. These include Viagra, sildenafil, the drug sibutramine (Merck & Co. Inc. et al. (2014) “The Power of Drugs to Treat Erectile Dysfunction”), and Cialis.
The report also identifies four drugs that have been linked to erectile dysfunction: (1) tadalafil (Cialis), (2) sildenafil (Viagra), and (3) sibutramine (Merck & Co. (2014) “The Power of Drugs to Treat Erectile Dysfunction”).
It also identifies four drugs that are known to be associated with erectile dysfunction: sildenafil (Viagra), tadalafil (Cialis), vardenafil (Levitra), and vardenafil citrate (Levitra).
Sildenafil (Viagra) is the first of the four drugs to be listed in the new report. It belongs to a class of drugs called Phosphodiesterase Type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors that work by increasing the levels of a natural substance called cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). PDE5 is involved in erectile function and is a natural chemical involved in the smooth muscle relaxation of penile vessels. cGMP is necessary for normal erection, and its levels increase with sexual stimulation, increasing the likelihood of achieving and maintaining an erection during sexual activity.
Sildenafil (Viagra) is the first drug to be listed in the new report.
Sibutramine (Merck & Co. (2014) “The Power of Drugs to Treat Erectile Dysfunction”) is a drug that is commonly prescribed to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). It belongs to a class of drugs called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors, which work by increasing the levels of a natural substance called cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). cGMP is involved in normal erection, and its levels increase with sexual stimulation, increasing the likelihood of achieving and maintaining an erection during sexual activity.
Tadalafil (Cialis) is the first drug to be listed in the new report.
Tadalafil (Cialis) is the second drug to be listed in the new report.
Viagra, being an innovative drug company, was founded in Brooklyn in the mid-1940s as the first drug company to market a medication that could address a common problem that was associated with the drug’s side effects.
Viagra is the brand name of the impotence drug Viagra, the most popular and prescribed drug for the treatment of impotence, with a generic version. In addition, Viagra is the name for a medication known as a phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitor (inhibiting the PDE enzyme).
In addition to Viagra, other drugs also have been developed for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, including:
Sildenafil is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE-5) inhibitor that works by relaxing the blood vessels in the penis, helping to achieve and maintain an erection. It is approved by the FDA to treat both male and female impotence.
Viagra, the brand name for Viagra, is one of the most well-known and most widely-known drugs in the world.
The company’s other product, sildenafil citrate, is a drug used to treat erectile dysfunction. It is available by prescription only.
Sildenafil is sold as an oral tablet, and it is also available as a prescription drug.
As of early May 2025, there have been about 30 million prescriptions for sildenafil in the United States alone.
It is not known how many times each year, Viagra has been linked to a higher risk of death compared to other PDE-5 inhibitors.
It is thought that Viagra may have more dangerous side effects than other PDE-5 inhibitors, such as:
It is not yet known if Viagra and other drugs containing sildenafil are associated with any serious cardiovascular events.
Sildenafil was approved for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in the United States in 1998. It was first approved in Europe in 2003.
However, a study in the European Journal of Impotence Research found that patients taking sildenafil had a higher risk of developing heart attacks, stroke, and myocardial infarction compared to patients taking a placebo.
The researchers found that taking sildenafil was associated with lower rates of major cardiovascular events and increased mortality, while the risk of strokes and other serious side effects was increased in the placebo group.
Sildenafil was the first drug to be approved by the FDA for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. It is the second medication for this purpose. Sildenafil, while not as popular as Viagra, may still be prescribed as an alternative medication for treating erectile dysfunction. It was approved for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in 1998.
The drug’s name was coined by the late Dr. David M. Minkin, MD, who also was a consultant to Pfizer.
Dr. Minkin is the co-author of “The Science Behind Viagra and Its Role in Treating Erectile Dysfunction: Exploring the Efficacy of Viagra and Other ED Drugs.”
Minkin was first to publish his findings in the journal “Drug and PDE” in 2002. He is now a leading researcher and a consultant to Eli Lilly and Co.
He is currently working on new research to better understand the mechanisms of sildenafil and other PDE inhibitors. He is also a leading researcher in the field of drug development and the drug industry.
He is currently involved in writing the latest book in the field of drug development, “How Viagra Works: Exploring Its Mechanisms, Their Roles, and Their Efficacy.”
Originally, Viagra was developed by Pfizer for treating impotence and for the treatment of erectile dysfunction.
