“The main problem is that we don’t know how effective this is,” Dr David Healy, a cardiologist at the University of Leicester, toldThe Guardian
“But we are trying to do more than just give you some information. We are trying to give you some information about what’s in it.”
“We have people who are taking nitrates for chest pain and angina, so we have people who are taking it for angina. And that’s all we have for you,” said Dr Healy.
“And you’re not giving them to anybody else.”
He added: “The first thing you need to do is to check with your doctor first. If you’re having problems with nitrates for angina, then you need to check with your doctor about it.”
For this reason, he said, the pills are usually taken about 30 minutes before intercourse.
It’s also possible to take the pill with food and drink.
“When you’re taking Viagra, you should be able to take it for an hour before sex,” he said.
“So if you’re taking Viagra and you’re having sex with someone who’s already taking Viagra, then you’re not going to be able to take the pills.”
Dr Healy also said that the pill is safe for most men to take, with a risk of high blood pressure and heart attack.
“You should not take the Viagra on an empty stomach,” he said.
“But we do know that a little bit of Viagra is safe for most men. You should not take it on an empty stomach.”
A spokesman for the manufacturer of the Viagra pill said: “We have tested and are working with the manufacturers of the Viagra and the Viagra Connect tablets to ensure that they are safe for most men.”
He added: “And it is just a matter of trying to make sure that the product is safe and that you are taking the medication as prescribed and not under any conditions.”
The Viagra has also been made available in packs of four or five tablets, which he said should be taken at the same time each day.
“So there’s no need to worry about taking the pills if you’re having problems with the medication,” he said.
He added: “You shouldn’t take the pills on an empty stomach, you shouldn’t take them with food or drink, you shouldn’t take them with any of the other medicines you take, and they’re not going to interact with any of those other medicines.
“We’re trying to give you some information about what’s in it, whether you’re taking it for angina or not, whether you should take it, whether you should have any other medicines.”
“So that’s how we’ve got people on the pill, who are on other medications,” he said.
